Requirements
Environmental Researcher
Battelle is a world leader in science and technology research. Our Statistics
and Information Analysis (SIA) group specializes in providing support to
environmental health, environmental policy, and other environmental research
projects, as well as research in areas such as energy and transportation.
SIA is seeking Environmental Researchers with strong quantitative skills
in the Washington, DC area for full-time, regular shift work. Compensation
will be based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package
will be provided. Relocation support is available.
The selected candidate will work at one of Battelle’s corporate offices
in the Washington, DC area. A minimal amount of domestic travel is anticipated.
Primary job responsibilities will include:
•Participate in assigned research projects with a minimum of supervision
and within time and budget constraints.
•Support preparation of reports and portions of reports that are clear,
concise, and technically accurate. Review technical environmental and chemical
data and policy information to prepare summaries and analyses of findings
for clients.
•Conduct quantitative and/or geospatial analyses of environmental
or other data.
•Achieve high technical quality in assigned research projects.
•Support preparation, presentation, and follow-up on research proposals.
•Plan and carry out appropriate professional self-development activities.
Candidate resumes must demonstrate the following minimum requirements in
order to be forwarded for consideration:
•Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, environmental
management, environmental engineering, natural resources, geography, or
a related degree •Zero to five years’ work experience in the
environmental sciences, environmental health, environmental policy, or related
fields •Strong quantitative skills, with statistical and statistical
programming training a preference •Ability to analyze and interpret
environmental and chemical data •Strong interpersonal communication
and writing skills
Additional selection criteria will include the abilities to demonstrate
outstanding initiative and be results oriented, communicate well verbally
and in writing, and work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams. Ideal
candidates will have a knowledge of environmental health and pollution prevention
programs; experience studying hazardous chemicals and toxicology; knowledge
of specific environmental issues such as air quality, persistent bioaccumulative
toxics, alternative fuels and energy sources, or mercury/lead; experience
with GIS software and remote sensing; understanding of environmental policy
and regulatory frameworks at the federal and state levels; and knowledge
of EPA, NOAA, NASA, and/or related programs. Successful internship or work
experience is a plus.
