The Department of Natural Resource Management and Engineering seeks applicants for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 23, 2008. We are seeking applicants with experience and interests in measurement and modeling of the meteorological exchanges of materials and energy with application to long term sustainability of natural resources.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will contribute to advanced integrated research on anthropogenic impacts on natural resources in a changing climate, and will teach one graduate and two undergraduate courses per year, including courses in his/her specialty.
Qualifications: The Department seeks a candidate whose research and teaching interests focus on understanding atmospheric transport and diffusion and its impact on natural resources including the measurement and modeling of the exchanges of materials and energy between the atmosphere and other components of the environment. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in teaching and research, and have the potential to maintain an externally funded research program. Interdisciplinary work within the Department is a priority. Preferred research areas include atmospheric impacts on natural resources (air, water, fish and wildlife, and plant communities) and potential feedbacks. The successful applicant should be versed in instrumentation (e.g. LIDAR, SODAR), and the measurement, analysis, and interpretation of observational data (e.g., field measurement and, historical records) in addition to mathematical modeling. It is expected that the candidate should be able to (1) conduct state-of-the-art research in association with the diverse group of scholars at the University; (2) conduct interdisciplinary graduate training and research programs in the study of atmospheric resources and its changes; (3) teach classes at the undergraduate level contributing to curricula in natural resources and environmental science in the Department’s atmospheric resources curriculum; and (4) provide relevant outreach to state stakeholders. A doctoral degree is required at the time of appointment. At least one degree in atmospheric science, engineering, natural resources, or other environmentally-related discipline is required. Competency in statistical analysis or other quantitative treatment of data is required. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with the qualifications of the applicant.
