Senior Scientist & Chief Meteorologist -- The Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has an
opening for a Chief Meteorologist.


The Chief Meteorologist serves as the in-house content expert and as the
public face of The Franklin Institute for all meteorology-related matters.
This position is responsible for the delivery of weather forecasts and
other meteorological information to the various media outlets available to
The Franklin Institute. In this role, the Chief Meteorologist serves as a
positive informational spokesperson for the Museum. Additionally the Chief
Meteorologist is expected to identify, pursue and nurture meaningful
partnerships with relevant government, private and university research
agencies and obtain funding sources and revenue-generating opportunities for
the Meteorology and Earth Science exhibit spaces, and assist in their
development and programming.


The individual must be a professional meteorologist with a minimum of five
years experience as an operational meteorologist. An advanced degree in
meteorology is required, with a Ph.D. in meteorology or a related field
desirable. The individual must have a proven ability to communicate weather
and climate science, both verbally and in writing, to a wide audience, from
elementary school children to grandparents, in settings ranging from
one-on-one to small groups to theaters. Demonstrated experience in handling
media questions, requests for information and on-air forecasting (TV and/or
radio) are required. In addition, the candidate must have strong project
management abilities. Computer literacy is expected.
