Postdoctoral Associate
Atmospheric Sciences, Harvard University
The Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry group in Harvard University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seeks applications for a postdoctoral position in ongoing investigations of carbon and vegetation dynamics in forest ecosystems, under the direction of Steve Wofsy and William Munger. Field sites include the Harvard Forest in central Massachusetts, where a world-famous research program has been carried out since 1989, as well as tropical forests in the central Amazon.
Work at these sites combines continuous eddy-covariance flux measurements to determine rates of carbon dioxide, water and heat exchange
from the ecosystem with long-term measurements of biomass, litter inputs and other ecosystem status indicators, remote sensing, measurements of other tracers, and atmospheric transport modeling. We are particularly interested in the long-term effects of climate and management and extension from local to regional scales. The successful applicant will take a leading role in acquiring, analyzing and interpreting project data in a collaborative, interdisciplinary framework, participate actively in the design and execution of ecological field measurements,
supervise undergraduate research projects and seasonal field assistants, contribute to instrument maintenance and calibration, and have opportunity to develop new research initiatives that extend the previous work.
Candidates should have a recent PhD in atmospheric science, ecosystem ecology,
environmental science or related field. Previous experience with collection
and analysis of ecological field data or ecosystem modeling, good quantitative
reasoning skills, and familiarity with programming and high-level statistical
languages are preferred. Applicants should email their CV, summary of research
interests, publications, and the names and address of three references to
William Munger (jwmunger@seas.harvard.edu).
Harvard University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
