"Validations and Improvements of the 9.7 micron ozone channel products of the Ozone Satellite Application Facility"

Duration: 18 months, starting between 01/09/2005 and 01/10/2005

Salary: approx. 1690 euro/month (net)

Apart from its modelling activities, the research team CAIAC (Atmospheric Chemistry and its Interactions with Climate) of CNRM is active in satellite retrieval algorithms. Within the Ozone SAF, we are working on products using the nadir radiance observations in the 9.7 microns ozone band taken as a whole, as available from the instruments HIRS (on NOAA POES satellites and on METOP) and SEVIRI (Meteosat Second Generation). In the last part of the development phase of the Ozone SAF (from now to beginning of 2007), following tasks will be studied or terminated:

- validation of the ozone column products
- correction of the surface emissivity effects
- study of detection of the Polar Stratospheric Clouds

Applicants must have a PhD in Atmospheric physics or chemistry or radiative transfer, and some experience in remote sensing techniques would be appreciated. It is required that they are familiar with coding in Fortran and using UNIX.
