AQMRC @ UWE is one of the leading organisations for the study and resolution of air quality management problems in the UK. AQMRC, UWE works for and with a large number of partner organisations collaborating with DEFRA, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Scottish Executive, The Greater London Authority as well as many local authorities, organisations and consultancies. The AQMRC, UWE is highly qualified in the techniques of air quality review and assessment and air quality action planning, having been explicitly involved in the development and subsequent revision of Local Air Quality Management, as well as national air quality action planning guidance and guidance on designating AQMAs. The Centre is increasingly involved in air quality work throughout Europe and within Asia.

The Air Quality Management Resource Centre's role is also to provide a comprehensive service to all professionals working in the field of air quality management. The key objectives of the Centre are to co-ordinate a network of regional practitioners and to facilitate their activities, as well as providing a focal point for information all aspects of air quality management in the region. Expert surgeries, training events and the dissemination of information and best practice via the Resource Centre's web site and other mechanisms.

The Air Quality Research Group, within which the centre sits, consists of both academic staff and research associates. Areas of interest include the impacts of air pollutants on both vegetation and human health and policy issues, particularly relating to air quality management. The Group has an extensive publication record, including peer reviewed journals, books, conference volumes and are active internationally, nationally and on a local scale.
