
The University of ReadingDepartment of MeteorologySchool of Mathematics, Meteorology and Physics Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Climate Prediction - Ref R0560 Grade RAIA 19,460 to 29,128 p.a or RAII 27,116 to 32,666 p.a (pay award pending) Full-time, fixed term for up to three years The NCAS Centre for Global Atmospheric Modelling (www.cgam.nerc.ac.uk), based in the RAE 5* Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, is a leading centre for research in climate modelling and prediction. We are now inviting applications for a postdoctoral position to carry out research aimed at understanding the influence of initial conditions in the ocean, land surface and cryosphere on climate predictions for time horizons of seasons to decades. The post forms part of an innovative new multi-institution project "GCEPS" (Grid for Coupled Ensemble Prediction Studies) funded under the Natural Environment Research Council's e-Science programme (http://www.nerc.ac.uk/funding/escience/). Candidates should have a Ph.D, or equivalent experience, in the physical or mathematical sciences. You should have good IT skills, especially Unix and programming in Fortran, IDL or similar. Experience in ocean, atmosphere or climate research is highly desirable, but not essential. Experience of data analysis and visualisation is also desirable.
