Weather Product Development Coordinator

Status: Full time

Location: Oakville, ON
Reports to: Director, Automated Products

Reporting structure is subject to change.

Description:

This person would report to the Director, Automated Products. The incumbent responsibilities would fall into three sections:
  1. Development of weather products using scripts and macros in the Metacast Weather Systems. Various Pelmorex business units may use these products.
  2. Scheduling, maintenance and quality control of newly created products ensuring that the associated data is properly represented in these products.
  3. Creation of new sequences and animations and general maintenance and upkeep of the Metacast show player.

Responsibilities:

  • Based on product requests, the incumbent would identify the appropriate data to utilize from various sources, define all the steps, algorithms and pre-requisites, then write shell scripts/macros to generate the appropriate product. This person would include pre-defined look, feel and positioning to generate the expected results and get the final products approved.
  • Should the data not already be included in the Metacast system, this person would identify where this information is located, identify what needs to be done to ingest this data, perform the imports if possible, otherwise request new improvements to the appropriate chains of command.
  • Using a testing and “Put into Operation” model, this person would ensure that the introduction of new automated weather products does not negatively affect the smooth operation of the “On Air - TV” and “Web” environments. These products would be either stills and/or movies generated on event or a scheduled basis.
  • Using multi-media and non-linear concepts, this person would develop product transitions and product flow to be incorporated into the show player sequences. The definitions and management of these master sequences and external inputs will be this person’s responsibility.
  • This person would also be an expert resource for the show player sequences and functionality. Upon request this person may perform more in-depth training.
  • As some of the products may be generated and distributed to the Web (New Media), this person will need to work and understand the company data flow and the impact these products will have on them.
  • Monitoring and quality control of all the Metacast products generated will be performed on a daily basis and improvements will be performed where required. The use of log files and other tools may be used to assist in this area.
  • This person will also be responsible to maintain proper documentation and training as to the processes, schedules, data inputs and outputs for the products created on the Metacast systems.
  • As the incumbent will be the closest to the Metacast system, any feedback and improvements identified either in the Metacast system itself or other surrounding software such as Imerge will be his/her responsibility.
  • It must also be understood that this position may evolve over time as we better understand the system functionality and improved potential outputs which may serve various areas of our business.
