MeteoSwiss is the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology in
Switzerland. As such, it provides meteorological and climatological
services for use by the public, businesses and public institutions. In
the context of NCCR Climate II (National Center of Competence in
Research - Climate) and the EU Framework Programme 6 ENSEMBLES we are
seeking a PostDoc in meteorology or climatology The goal of your work is to evaluate the climatological characteristics of probabilistic forecasts of dynamic models on a seasonal timescale. In close collaboration with the Natural Catastrophe Team at Swiss Re, the Swiss Reinsurance Company, you will analyze the re-insurance relevant meteorological and financial risks for extreme events. You will be responsible to perform these tasks successfully using state of the art physical, statistical and financial methods together with large, complex data sets. You will publish scientific papers for peer reviewed journals and you will present your results at conferences. We are looking for a team-oriented, self-motivated person with a PhD in meteorology or climate science. Experience in processing model data, statistics, probabilistic prediction and programming would be an advantage. The person should be interested in linking scientific results with the field of reinsurance. For effective communication in national and interna-tional groups good written and spoken language skills are expected in both English and German or French.
