Vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Atmospheric Photochemistry at the University of Bristol -closing date 23 February 2006. A post-doc position is available at the University of Bristol to work with Prof Andrew Orr-Ewing, Prof Mike Ashfold and Dr Dudley Shallcross on the atmospheric photochemistry of formaldehyde. The experiments involve simultaneous measurement of formaldehyde absorption cross sections and quantum yields for the H + HCO radical channel at UV wavelengths in the range 300 - 360 nm, and under conditions of temperature and pressure appropriate for the troposphere. Measurements are made at high wavelength resolution using a tunable UV laser, and the yield for the radical channel is monitored by cavity ring-down spectroscopy of HCO. Results are incorporated into computer models to assess the consequences for tropospheric HOx (HO2 and OH) production. Representative publications describing our prior work on this project are: High resolution absorption cross sections of formaldehyde at wavelengths from 313 - 320 nm, F.D. Pope, C.A. Smith, M.N.R. Ashfold and A.J. Orr-Ewing, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 7, 79 - 84 (2005). The photochemistry of formaldehyde under tropospheric conditions, F.D. Pope, C.A. Smith, P.R. Davis, D.E. Shallcross, M.N.R. Further particulars and application procedures are provided at the website https://www.bris.ac.uk/boris/jobs/ads?ID=46414 and information about the activities of the Bristol group is available at http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/pt/laser/ The closing date for applications is 9.00 am on 23 February 2006. |
