The Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS), Clayton H. Riddel Faculty of Environment Earth and Resources, the University of Manitoba is seeking a technical position in either one of the two following categories, to:

Under the general direction of the Director of CEOS and CEOS faculty members
1) develops an archive, facilitates access to and management plans for CEOS data, maintains an archive of specialized research data collected at CEOS, contributes to the production of specialized data products resulting from CEOS research via field data quality control, develops and maintains CEOS internet resources, including WWW, e-mail lists, ftp access, etc., and assists with overseeing logistical issues associated with various CEOS project observational plans, or 2) maintains various meteorological equipment, oversees new equipment purchases, assists in various CEOS field projects with respect to meteorological equipment, development of meteorological instrumentation including surface energy, mass and gas fluxes.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in the physical or natural science, or engineering, with an emphasis in either computer science, atmospheric science, climate science/ climatology, geography, remote sensing, or environmental science. For (1) above, experience with computing infrastructure (PCs and/or Unix based hardware/OS), data software (IDL, Matlab, etc.) and/or computer programming (e.g., FORTRAN, C+) is an asset. For (2) above, experience with various meteorological equipment (e.g., data loggers, anemometers, radiometers, thermometers, hygrometers, etc.), data acquisition and streams and general electronics (soldering, basic DC and AC circuits, construction of new cabling, etc.) are important.

The selected candidate will receive a fixed annual salary (minimum of $38,000 CDN per annum), depending on experience, plus benefits according to the UM Union regulations. Preference will be given to Canadian Citizens, however, international applications are invited.
