Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Associate
to work on a project to be carried out jointly between the Physics
Department at Imperial College London and the Centre for Global
Atmospheric Modelling at the University of Reading under the leadership
of Prof. Joanna D. Haigh and Dr. Michael Blackburn. You will undertake research into the mechanisms whereby solar-cycle influences on the tropical lower stratosphere can influence tropospheric circulation. This will involve experiments using a range of simplified global circulation models. The study is part of a larger research programme into Solar Influences on Climate being carried out by a consortium of five UK universities and the British Antarctic Survey along with collaborators in the UK Met Office and in institutions in Germany, Japan and the USA. The whole programme is funded by NERC and the research associate will be able to interact with other researchers at all the member institutions. The job will also involve a small component of administration in supporting consortium activities. A PhD in atmospheric science, or related discipline, is required. Experience with climate models and atmospheric dynamics is highly desirable. The appointment is fulltime, 0.5 FTE at both Reading and Imperial respectively for 60 months starting as soon as possible. Your total salary for the first year will be in the range of £21,457 to £25,006 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. As you will be working for two organisations, the salary offered by each organisation will be in accordance with their pay scales as well as being dependent on qualifications and experience.
