Job Announcement: Two post-doctoral positions in regional climate
modeling at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics. Deadline for Application: 27 June 2008 The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is accepting applications for two post-doctoral positions within the ICTP Earth System Physics section. The positions will be within the framework of the regional climate modeling activities of the section, although the candidates will have the opportunity to also explore other areas. In particular, we seek candidates with demonstrated working experience in either of the two following subjects: 1) Development of non-hydrostatic, efficient and accurate dynamical cores 2) Development of cloud microphysics and cumulus convection schemes The final goal of this work is to upgrade the ICTP regional climate modeling system (RegCM) to a next-generation non-hydrostatic, cloud resolving framework. The candidates will thus be requested to implement the schemes within the RegCM parallel code structure in collaboration with the other staff members of the section. The mission of the ICTP is to foster science in developing nations, therefore these positions will offer ample opportunities to interact with developing nation scientists. In addition, the candidates will have the opportunity to work within the framework of various European projects the ICTP is currently involved in. The starting net salary will be in the range of 2200-2500 Euros per month depending on the applicants' experience and the appointment will be for one year, renewable for up to two additional years, starting as soon as possible.
