Chi Epsilon Pi Fall 2005 Initiation Ceremony will be held
in Room 105 Walker at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday,

30th Annual Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop
Over
170 people, representing countries from all around the world, attended
the 30th Annual Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop held
at the Penn State Nittany Lion Inn from October 24-28. Despite an
unusual snow event on Tuesday, October 25, President Spanier delivered
welcoming remarks to attendants after the lunch break. The event
was sponsored by NOAA, Penn State Department of Meteorology, and
the American Meteorological Society. [View

Ph.D.
Candidacy Examinees: The candidacy exam will be held on
Thursday and Friday, January 5 and 6, 2006.
On January 5 the physical meteorology section will be given and
on January 6 the dynamical meteorology section will be given; this
is the reverse order that we have used in the past. Saturday, January
7 will be the snow day if either section can not be given on the
assigned day. The exams will be held in 529 Walker and start as
soon after 8:30 AM as everyone taking that section has arrived.
The exam, which consists of answer 3 of 5 questions on each day,
will start no later than 9 AM, and must be completed by 1 PM. If
you have not yet signed up for the exam, please talk to Dr. Shirer
ASAP.
A
Graduation Reception for all graduating students,
their families, and friends will be held in the Weather Station
on December 17th following the graduation ceremony (approximately
noon). If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Rhonda Spychalski (rfs14@psu.edu)
by December 13 with the number of people attending.

The National
Science Foundation and the Institute of International Education
announce the opening of the Central Europe Summer Research
Institute (CESRI). CESRI will provide awards for U.S. Graduate
students in the sciences and engineering with a high-quality international
summer research experience in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany,
Hungary, Poland or Slovakia. Competition for Summer 2006 is now
open and full CESRI program information application materials can

EMS
Student Council: The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
Undergraduate Student Council will be having a meeting on Wednesday,
December 7th in 301 Steidle at 5:45 pm. Pizza will arrive

Business and Finance Majors and those interested! The EBF
Society has now been officially recognized by the University. The

Kick-Off meeting of the Energy Business and Finance Society.

Undergraduate Exhibition
will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2006, in the HUB-Robeson Center
at University Park. This annual event is open to all Penn State

Scholarships: In 2006, the Foundation expects to award
80 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350
