Science and Engineering post-doctoral and graduate students with a strong interest in careers in planetary exploration are encouraged to apply for NASA's 17th Annual Planetary Science Summer School, which will hold two sessions this summer--July 25-29 and August 1-5 at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The deadline for applications, which can be submitted electronically by visiting http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/pscischool/, is June 3, 2005.

Recognizing the Best of the Science Work Force: The Emerald Honors. The MIRS (Minorities in Research Science) Conference examines and celebrates the outstanding achievements of women and men from multicultural communities who are working in private and government R&D laboratories in many areas, among them Climate and Weather Research. The conference was established by Science Spectrum magazine to recognize and pay tribute to leaders in the medical and science fields who have made a significant impact at both the national and international level. University Announces Change to Fall 2005 Semester Calendar. Beginning fall semester 2005, the first day of classes (August 30) will follow a TUESDAY class schedule. But, the Tuesday before the Thanksgiving holiday (November 22) will follow a FRIDAY class schedule. [See full announcement.]

MMS Profiler System fielded to active US Army units and approved for full rate production. A mobile, nowcasting and prediction system designed to run in the back of a HUMVEE on the battlefield, has been approved for full rate production. The MMS-P system was developed for the U.S. Army by a team of researchers at Penn State (lead PI, David Stauffer) and Smith's Detection of Maryland. [More]

MBNA will be hosting an information session on campus this week on Wed., May 18 from 6-8 p.m. in Room 121 Thomas Building to talk about employment opportunities. This summer, earn $10.50 per hour* part time. ($8.00 /hr. plus average performance based incentives of $2.50/hr.) MBNA has flexible schedules and excellent earning potential. NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program: This scholarship program is designed 1) to increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education and foster multidisciplinary training opportunities; 2) to increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean and atmosphere and improve environmental literacy; 3) to recruit and prepare students for public service careers with NOAA and other natural resource and science agencies at the Federal, state and local levels of government; and 4) to recruit and prepare students for careers as teachers and educators in oceanic and atmospheric science and to improve scientific and environmental education in the United States.  Up to $28,425 available per student.
