Weather/Climate Data Scientist Internship (Seasonal Forecasting) – BASF Digital Farming

Where the Chemistry Happens
We are currently seeking a motivated Intern like you to join our Digital Farming team. The BASF Digital Farming team develops weather, remote sensing, and model-based agricultural solutions for addressing crop production challenges and components: disease and nutrient management, yield prediction, phenology, seeding, and sustainability.

In this role, you will develop sub-seasonal and seasonal weather forecast products for use in agricultural models. You will interface closely with BASF’s digital farming R&D teams – including weather, data science, and agronomy – to provide support for appropriate forecast data use and model development.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate experience with advanced statistics and data analytics and your ability to write well-structured, efficient, easily maintainable, and well-documented research code. You will also gain valuable practical experience in modern data science packages and frameworks, geospatial analytics, and AWS cloud technologies.

Formula for Success

  • Degree or degree progression in meteorology, agronomy, statistics, and/or computer science with an emphasis on longer range weather applications
  • Experience or familiarity with at least one modern data science language, preferably Python or R (Python strongly preferred)
  • Strong interest or experience in applying forecast data to real life problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis to validate and improve data / models
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with a remote team
