Agricultural Meteorologist

ZedX is currently seeking an Agricultural Meteorologist with analytical and modeling experience to join our research and development team in Bellefonte Pennsylvania (USA). Applicant should have extensive knowledge of how weather impacts pest development, crop growth, and management practices. He or she should have experience with conducting analytic studies and developing models for the agricultural sector. Position seniority and compensation will depend on the level of a candidate’s expertise and experience. The position will require occasional short-term travels in the United States and internationally. 

The ideal candidate should have a strong educational background in a physical science (e.g. meteorology, physics, environment, etc.) and mathematics along with a working knowledge of agriculture, or in an agricultural science (e.g. plant physiology, agronomy, entomology, plant pathology, etc.) and mathematics along with a working knowledge of meteorology. He or she should have an optimistic, friendly disposition, and be comfortable working collaboratively with other employees in an agile, innovative environment. Applicant should be able to set realistic timelines for completing tasks and be capable of meeting critical deadlines.

Job Requirements 

Candidate should be self-motivated, self-reliant, and have strong communication, writing, and problem-solving skills.  He or she would report to the Head of Technology. Interested individuals must meet the following minimum requirements. 

  • D. in a physical or agricultural science with a proficiency in mathematics, analytics, and/or modeling.
  • Fluent in speaking and writing in English.
  • Capable of setting up and leading analytic studies and/or the development of weather-based models from planning to execution.
  • Competency in at least one programming language (e.g., R, FORTRAN, C, C++, etc.).
  • Able to write scientific documents (such as journal articles) and create presentations for targeted audiences.
  • Knowledge of scientific and technical trends in the agricultural research community.
  • Willing to participate in a multicultural, multidisciplinary work environment.
  • Willing to participate in formal educational programs and onsite training if necessary to complete a work assignment.
