Job description

This role requires a keen analytical mind, skills for research and self-learning, and an affinity for coding and statistical data analysis.  It involves working under the guidance of an accomplished professional on applied research projects related to the development and use of analytics from Catastrophe Risk Models.  These high-profile projects provide inputs for critical Enterprise Risk Management functions and participating in them carries great potential for career advancement in Catastrophe Risk Management. 


  • Support catastrophe modeling for natural perils, terrorism and cyber risk for multiple lines of business: property, workers compensation, auto, and group benefits
  • Assist in the detailed evaluation and calibration of catastrophe models through assignments on data processing, analysis and visualization
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation for external rating and regulatory agencies as well as internal model audits 


  • An undergraduate degree in STEM, Economics or Actuarial Science and a demonstrated aptitude in coding, statistical analysis and data visualization
  • 1-3+ years of work experience in a related field
  • Familiarity with Excel, SQL, R/MATLAB and ARCGIS preferred
  • Experience of working with Catastrophe Models desirable but not required (extensive on the job training will be provided)
  • Any experience in weather science would be a plus. 


The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: 

$60,800 - $91,200
