Job Summary
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder is encouraging applications for an Associate Scientist supporting NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) work related to the magnetometers (MAGs) on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite Series-R (GOES-R) mission. The Space Weather Team within NCEI, is responsible for supporting NOAA’s space weather mission and for ensuring the operational and scientific utility of NOAA’s space environmental data.
Our Scientist will be part of the CIRES-NCEI MAG team supporting all aspects of our GOES-R MAG efforts including pre-and post-launch calibration/validation activities, anomaly investigations, and attending/contributing to technical meetings.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Participate in pre-and post-launch instrument calibration/validation activities.
- Participate in NOAA-NASA engineering technical meetings.
- Investigate science data anomalies on-orbit and make recommendations.
- Validate and calibrate on-orbit science data.
- Assist in the development and presentation of data product reviews to NOAA-NASA.
- Opportunities to participate in scientific research with members of the CIRES-NCEI MAG team.

- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (Green Card) is required.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Physics or similar Scientific or Engineering field required. Candidates applying with a Bachelor’s degree must also have at least 4 years of relevant experience beyond the degree.
