Job description

Post-Doctoral researcher in Remote Sensing of Cloud and Precipitation

Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences
Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi

Positions are available for a post-doctoral researcher to work in the department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi. The candidates would work in Dr. Chuntao Liu ‘s research group (http://atmos.tamucc.edu/trmm/) in the studies of precipitation and properties of convective systems using 20+ years of TRMM and GPM observations. Current research directions include, but not limited to, remote sensing of precipitation with radar and passive microwave radiometers; understanding of extreme weather events, including relationship between lightning and the properties of convection; morphology and organization of convective systems; trace gases vertical transport by deep convection by using machine learning techniques. We are also involved in the field campaigns of DCOTSS to understand the trace gas transport into the lower stratosphere by overshooting storms over the United States in summer (https://dcotss.org/) and OYESNSA to understand the global electric circuit at Barrow Alaska (https://www.arm.gov/research/campaigns/nsa2017oyesnsa/).

The Post-Doc incumbent should have earned a Ph.D. in the last five years in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other closely related fields, and has experience with management of large data sets, and visualization with IDL or Python. Familiarity with severe storms and satellite remote sensing may be helpful but is not required. The Post-Doc position will be supported for one year with the possibility of renewal for additional two years.
