Science and Technology on a Mission!
For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the area of atmospheric general circulation model (GCM) development with the goal of improving the representation of clouds by implementing a novel adaptive vertical grid enhancement technique.  This position is in the Cloud Processes Research and Modeling group in the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct creative and independent ground-breaking model development pertaining to the representation of clouds and turbulence in atmospheric GCMs.
  • Conduct analysis on the representation of clouds from atmospheric GCMs compared to observations.
  • Publish research results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals and present technical results at scientific conferences.
  • Travel as required to coordinate research with collaborators.
  • Pursue complementary research interests through independent collaborations with other scientists and technical staff both internal and external.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
  • Recent PhD in atmospheric science or closely related discipline.
  • Experience conducting research in atmospheric science or closely related discipline.
  • Experience in atmospheric GCM development and/or analysis.
  • Experience in cloud process research and/or cloud and turbulence parameterization.
  • Experience with running and analyzing atmospheric numerical models.
