ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – DYNAMIC METEOROLOGY
The SUNY College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position for an Assistant Professor in Meteorology, with specializations in dynamic meteorology and mesometeorology, beginning August 2010. The initial appointment will be for two years. The expectations include teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development. Research with undergraduates is desirable. The College at Oneonta has 5,800 students and 450 faculty and offers over 60 undergraduate majors and nine graduate programs. The student to faculty ratio is approximately 17:1. In the U.S. News rankings of “America’s Best Colleges 2010,” SUNY Oneonta received its highest ranking ever: 10th among public colleges. The nine-member Earth Sciences Department is multi-disciplinary with undergraduate programs in geology, water resources, earth science, earth science education, environmental earth science, and meteorology. The department has a strong history of excellence in teaching, faculty-student mentoring, and continued contact with alumni. Duties: Teach undergraduate courses in dynamic, mesoscale, and introductory meteorology. Advise and mentor undergraduate students. Conduct research, scholarly activity or other appropriate professional development. Service on college/departmental committees is also expected.
Required Qualifications: PhD or ABD (PhD must be completed within one year of appointment) in meteorology or related area. Applicant must have a strong background in dynamic meteorology as well as qualifications in mesoscale meteorology.
Preferred
Qualifications: Evidence of interest
in teaching in an undergraduate meteorology program and in conducting
meteorological research, preferably with involvement of undergraduates and having experience with diverse populations or
pedagogies.
