Job description
The Meteorology Division at Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), Utah, is
currently recruiting a full-time meteorologist intern position. The
internship starts at the GS-05 level with a target grade of GS-09 at the
end of the second year. Upon successful completion of the 2-year
internship, the position will be converted to a career position without
further competition. The position is open through 17 November 2009
The Dugway Meteorology Division provides operational
meteorological support to Dugway Proving Ground field tests, manages
operational meteorological support at all U.S. Army test ranges, and is
the lead for almost all Department of Defense atmospheric transport and
dispersion tests and studies. The duties of the intern typically will
focus on a variety of tasks providing meteorological support for ongoing
test activities at Dugway Proving Ground including: taking surface
observations, launching radiosondes, deploying and setting up
meteorological instrumentation, issuing general and test specific
forecasts while using DPG's state-of-the-art mesoscale numerical weather
prediction models (e.g, 1 km WRF), atmospheric transport and dispersion
modeling, and computer programming. Although the target grade for this
position is GS-09, the Meteorology Division offers career opportunities
to advance to the highest Civil Service grade levels as a meteorologist.
