The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) has recently been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and additional partners. It is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). It has strong interactions with the Goethe-University, the Research Institute Senckenberg, and other research institutions in the Rhine-Main area and offers an international, multidisciplinary and dynamic work environment. The mission of the Centre is to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change at the organism level. Junior-Professor (W1), Microclimatology/Phytoclimatology
The applicant should conduct an active research program related to land-atmosphere interaction, in particular to the atmospheric boundary layer, land surface, and/or canopy processes. The excellent young scientist will be expected to develop mathematical methods and enhance numerical models to study the role of the terrestrial biosphere in the climate system in close cooperation with dynamic vegetation and climate modelers.
Acquisition of external funds is expected and essential. The candidate will be involved in university teaching. Excellent lab facilities will be provided within the frame of the LOEWE centre. The position is for a period of min. three and max. six years with a starting date as soon as possible.
The designated salary for the position is based on “W1” on the German university scale or equivalent.
