Job description

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). IMSG is currently seeking to hire a Support Scientist (Technical Liaison) to support NOAA STAR in Camp Springs, MD.

The National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a mature data processing organization that challenges its system architects to overcome a legacy of diverse technologies, independent planning, stovepipe applications, and task-focused approaches to development. Three NESDIS Offices have projects that intend to overcome those challenges by delivering new, centralized capabilities characterized by software re-use, the latest proven information technologies, and integrated data management.

· The Office Satellite Data Processing and Distribution (OSDPD) are developing and implementing the Environmental Satellite Processing Center (ESPC)

· The Office of Systems Development (OSD) is managing the National Polar Operational Satellite System (NPOESS) Data Exploitation (NDE) Project.

· The Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) is designing a collaborative environment for algorithm development and applications research.

Duties:

· Ongoing, regular communications between STAR, OSD and OSDPD that promote the most efficient transfer of research into operations

· Communicate research and application system architecture and tools that have been selected or are being discussed for selection by STAR for the collaborative environment to the NDE and ESPC projects.

· Communicate system architecture and tools that have been selected or are being discussed for selection by the NDE and ESPC projects to STAR personnel designing the STAR collaborative environment.

· Recommend actions to the NDE, ESPC and STAR collaborative environment projects that would promote the most efficient transfer of research into operations.

Requirements:

* Commitment to establishing system engineering best practices and technologies
* Recent, working knowledge of polar environmental satellite applications and research
* Developmental and operational experience with polar satellite product generation or equivalent systems
* Ability to describe scientific and data processing requirements to a variety of audiences (some technical, some not)
* Project experience with software engineering practices (i.e., methods, tools, techniques)
* Knowledge of innovative technologies employed in remote sensing and/or satellite product generation environments
* Knowledge of innovative research currently being done using remote sensing satellite data such as that relating to detecting climate change.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Advanced degree in Atmospheric Science, Remote Sensing or relevant field.
* U.S. Citizen or permanent resident preferred.
