Job description
I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). IMSG is currently seeking to hire a Systems Programmer (Development, Integration and Test) to support NOAA STAR in Camp Springs, MD.
IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-research and semi-operational working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. There are a number of openings to provide multi-year scientific and technical support to STAR, located in Camp Springs, Maryland, and Silver Spring, Maryland, in applied science research and development for critical, current, and future (such as GOES-R, NPOESS, etc.) national meteorological geostationary and polar-orbiting satellite programs. Ideal candidates possess advanced degrees in physical sciences, remote sensing, astronomy, physics, mathematics, and computer science, etc., and/or have sophisticated programming skills in IDL/Matlab, C/C++ or FORTRAN. Experience in relevant fields is generally required.
Duties:
· The Systems Programmer will aid in the development of an existing
program/system that is used to create scientific products from satellite
data. All the scientific algorithms for one satellite are run though
this program. The C++ program is set up to be a framework where common
ancillary data for all the algorithms is read in once. Product
precedence has also been set up such that the order that the products
are created is determined at run time.
· The programmer will also integrate the scientific algorithms into the framework and create scripts to run the algorithm on extensive proxy data sets. The results
of the runs will be used by the scientists to determine the accuracy of
the products. The algorithms that are integrated into the framework are
written in C/C++ and FORTRAN90.
· The applicant will have to troubleshoot existing programs and scripts, develop and manage control scripts, and maintain the framework.
Requirements:
* Experience processing and managing large volumes of data.
* At least three years experience programming in either C/C++.
* Must have practical knowledge of Perl and shell scripting.
* Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux.
* Experience with FORTRAN and code integration is recommended.
* An Atmospheric Science degree or experience is a plus.
