Research

The Weather Communications Group promotes research in a variety of subjects related to weather forecasting and the communication with the public. Students have the opportunity to conduct research with other organizations, including the local office of the National Weather Service. In addition, the WCG sponsors both graduate and undergraduate independent research in accordance with the requirements of the department.

After the March 2001 East Coast snowstorm, the WCG sponsored a Forecasters Forum, focusing on how and where the communication of meteorological information failed.

Recent research projects have involved developing and improving the Pennsylvania MESONET, the development of an agricultural climate webpage, and COMET project focused on flash-flood forecasts.
