Teaching/Instruction

The Weather Communications Group teaches a variety of classes which primarily focus on improving the presentation and communication of weather forecasts and synoptic meteorology to the public. The WCG has developed a series of Weather Communications Classes. During the summer, the group sponsors a week-long resident Weather Camp for students in grades 8-10. There is also a Teacher’s Camp that provides high school instructors with lessons on the various subjects in weather.

In addition, the Weather Communications Group is frequently called on to give talks to groups. The WCG provides academic support and advising for prospective students. The group also works closely in supporting the Campus Weather Service and its many operational learning opportunities. The Group oversees the National Collegiate Forecasting Contest, in which there are over 25 academic institutions and more than 700 participants. In addition, the WCG facilitates students' internships with USAToday, the United States Golf Association (USGA), The Weather Channel, and several TV stations and educational institutions.
