Meteorology alumnus receives Reed College's Vollum Award

1980 Meteorology Graduates Take Command of National Weather Centers
On 2 June 2004, Col. John Lanicci ('80) took command of the Air Force Weather Agency at Offutt AFB in Nebraska. This is the Air Forces' strategic weather center that reports directly to the HQ USAF Director of Weather in Washington D.C. And, on 20 August, another 1980 graduate, Capt. Dave Titley will be taking command of the Navy's Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Monterey, California. With these promotions, two of the three national weather centers in the US will be run by PSU Meteorology graduates from the Class of 1980!

  Meteorology alumnus named as new Penn State Homeland Security Director. Gilbert R. Jersey ('75, '82), currently technology manager for ExxonMobil's Corporate Research Laboratory, has accepted the newly created position of homeland security director, effective July 12.

MAPS receives award from the Penn State Alumni Association
The Alumni Council Awards Committee of the Penn State Alumni Association has awarded MAPS the Affiliate Program Group Achievement Award for 2003. The award recognizes groups who have distinguished themselves through exceptional program offerings. MAPS was presented with this award as a result of the Department's CWS 30th Anniversary/Alumni Reunion in June 2002.
