Meteo 440W to replace Meteo 445 and 446 in Fall '06

The Meteorology Department will be phasing in a new required three-credit course, Principles of Atmospheric Measurement, Meteo 440W, beginning in the Fall '06 semester. The prerequisites for this course will be Meteo 300, Meteo 431, and the required statistics course. Meteo 440W will replace the two 1-credit courses, Meteo 445 and Meteo 446, but the total number of credits to graduate (121) will not change. Because of the limited number of seats each semester (both Fall and Spring), current juniors and seniors should continue to plan on taking Meteo 445 and Meteo 446, but they must complete these courses by the end of the Spring '07 semester. In contrast, current freshmen and sophomores should plan on taking the new course in their junior year. Thus, current sophomores will receive registration priority for the Fall '06 offering of the course. In the Fall '06 semester, the new course is temporarily numbered Meteo 497A, but will be changed to Meteo 440W once the course is approved by the University Senate. Any students having questions about this change should contact their adviser or Prof. Shirer.
