In this talk, I will summarize
some of our recent studies on the physical (including thermodynamic, dynamical
and microphysical) processes occurring at the top of some severe thunderstorms.
I will present observations first (mostly from satellites, but will also include
aircraft and ground-based) and then use model simulations to illustrate the
physics of the observed phenomena. I will also discuss the implications of the
findings.
