Teaching Interests: Mesoscale processes in the atmosphere and physical oceanography. Dr. Diercks works with undergraduate students in furthering their understanding
of the atmospheric processes which produce life-threatening severe weather.
Students analyze recent severe weather cases using sophisticated computer
tools and then report their findings in the format of a paper submitted
to a professional meteorological journal. Selected Publications: Diercks, J.W., R.C. Weir, and M.K. Kopper, 1982: Forecast verification and reconnaissance data for Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclones (July 1980 through June 1982).
