Admissions Checklist and Timetable



Summary of Admission Requirements:

  1. Completed Graduate School Application On-line.  *Deadline is February 15 for entry in the fall semester of that same year.

  2. $45 application fee.

  3. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination Aptitude Test (GRE) are required for admission. For the present exam, a verbal and quantitative combined score of 1200 or greater is typical for those admitted. 

  4. All international applicants whose first language is not English or who have not received baccalaureate or master's degrees from an institution in which the language of instruction is English, must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination. A TOEFL score of 600 on the paper test is required for admission. 

  5. Two official transcripts from each institution attended. 

  6. Statement of purpose (a one-page essay describing your research interests and career goals). 

  7. Two letters of recommendation. 

All material except the electronic application and the $45 application fee (items 1 and 2 above) must be submitted to the Department of Meteorology. The electronic application and the $45 fee must be sent to the Graduate School. Timetable


End of August-Beginning of Recruiting Season:

    You should be submitting your application.

1st of January:
    Department selects students out of the current application pool for nomination toward Fellowships.


15th of February:

    Deadline for application for entry in the fall semester of that same year. Admission Committee will begin to evaluate applications and make offers of assistantships.


15th of April:

    Final date for acceptance or declination of department offer.

Near the end of August:

    You arrive for orientation and classes.
