This semester the Ken Reeves Memorial Weather
Briefings will continue on Tuesdays at 12:30 PM in the Joel N. Myers
Weather Center on the 6th floor of Walker. For those of you
who are new or
unfamiliar these briefings are a great way to keep up with the past,
current, and future weather with the scientific explanations behind it
all. Everyone is invited to attend and only basic meteorological
backgrounds are assumed. The briefings offer more detail than you would
receive in a
standard television/online weathercast, but the talks are informal and
questions/commentary are invited and welcomed.
Our first briefing will take place this Tuesday (9/16/14) at 12:45 pm with Rich Grumm presenting. Rich is the Science and Operations Officer of the State College National Weather Service office. Rich specializes in high impact weather forecasting and is also the creator of the Eyewall forecast model website (nws.met.psu.edu) that is hosted through our department.
The beginning of September has started out warmer than normal with periodic fronts delivering rainfall to the Northeast and Middle Atlantic regions. The prolonged drought in the west continues and we are in the middle of hurricane season. Come to our first weather briefing to get caught up on weather locally and beyond!
Date/Time: Tuesday (9/16) at 12:30 pm.
Place: Joel N. Myers Weather Center
