Atmospheric Dynamics:

Biography:

  • Member of the Graduate Faculty

Research Interests:

Geophysical fluid dynamics, atmospheric adjustment, and atmospheric energetics

Teaching Interests:

Fluid dynamics of the atmosphere and ocean, atmospheric radiation, and atmospheric thermodynamics

Dr. Bannon is interested in all aspects of the dynamics of weather and climate in the atmosphere and oceans. His recent work explores the role of acoustic, Lamb, and buoyancy waves in the adjustment of the atmosphere to a state of hydrostatic and geostrophic balance. Future work focuses on the energetics of deep moist convection.
