Description
The Meteorologist functions as the meteorological consultant to the company, providing consulting services and operational weather forecasts to internal clients within the utility.
Responsibilities:
- Manages small projects with few complex tasks.
- Provides meteorological services for internal utility clients including Customer Care, Electric Operations, Energy Supply Regulatory Affairs, Safety and Shared Services, and Gas Operations.
- Qualifies as the DCPP Emergency Operations Facility (EOF) meteorologist for the nuclear emergency response team.
- Designs and manages meteorological field programs for internal utility clients including Nuclear Power Generation, Hydro (weather modification), Energy Management, Customer
- Works in the PG&E Weather Office or company EOC as required; and assists the weather forecasting team during severe storm events.
Assists with the development and management of meteorological data collection systems and displays.
Qualifications
MInimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or Physical Science or equivalent work experience
- 3 years of relevant experience in one or more meteorology fields such as nuclear power meteorology; alternate energy development – wind, solar, wave; meteorological measurement systems; climate analysis and statistics; dispersion meteorology; meteorological information technology; or weather modification technology
Desired Qualifications:
- MA/MS Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
- Demonstrated experience in weather forecasting.
- Detailed knowledge of California geography and weather.
- Knowledge of GIS related concepts.
- Knowledge of designing, programming, and maintaining modern meteorological information systems.
- Basic knowledge of fire weather concepts
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Team collaboration skills.
- Familiarity various software applications, computer and web programming as it applies to weather monitoring, forecasting and modeling.
- Familiarity with Electric System Operations (ESO) utility work environment
