Meteorology 512 Topics in Synoptic Meteorology Fall 2010
Meteorology 512 Topics in Synoptic Meteorology Fall 2010
If you took METEO 511 to become a REAL meteorologist, then METEO 512 might be for you. In METEO 512 we will take a deeper look at midlatitude synoptic-scale weather. Topics include the structure and evolution of extratropical cyclones, fronts, frontogenesis, and jets. The class includes traditional lectures, real-time weather analysis, and discussions of seminal papers on a variety of synoptic meteorology topics. METEO 512 emphasizes the quasigeostrophic analysis of midlatitude synoptic-scale weather, although semigeostrophic theory is relied upon in the treatment of fronts and frontogenesis.
Prerequisites: METEO 411 and 501 (or something similar)
Please see Dr. Markowski if you have any questions about whether METEO 512 would be a good fit for you.
