Job description

Duties 

As a Research Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

- Conduct standard research on understanding physical processes related to drought onset, persistence, and demise. Conduct theoretical and experimental research on the earth system dynamics, designed to advance physical process understanding of changes in drought states, including its onset, intensification, and cessation under climate change. Evaluate results and reports on findings, working with higher level scientists.
- Participate in the development of knowledge and predictions focused on providing actionable forecasts for drought early warning to a range of potential users. Ensure the transition of knowledge into Drought Early Warning Systems in collaboration with a national team by applying recent research, and best practices and principles. Participate in working groups with managers, stakeholders, members of the public and/or other individuals and groups.
- Support research proposals and contribute findings to peer reviewed journals. Prepare reports and present research at scientific conferences. Implement research ideas and use accepted practices and research methods to execute assignments.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience OR substitution of education for experience OR combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. EDUCATION:

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

B. Combination of education and experience --
 education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
