Job description

The Meteorology program in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (physics.cofc.edu) at the College of Charleston has a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor position available for the 2024-2025, 2025-2026, and 2026-2027 academic years. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Earth Science, or a related field and must be able to accept legal employment in the United States by August 16, 2024. The teaching load is 12 contact hours per week through a combination of meteorology lectures and introductory physics lectures and labs. In particular, we seek out candidates qualified and interested in teaching mesoscale and synoptic meteorology as well as introductory and intermediate courses in our meteorology curriculum. This hire is being pursued to help us grow the only undergraduate meteorology program in the state of South Carolina. A successful candidate may have opportunities to mentor student capstone research projects in atmospheric science and meteorology. Candidates with scholarly interests outside of operational meteorology but still qualified to teach the courses mentioned above are still encouraged to apply.
